Ditmas Park

Brooklyn

If your thing is sitting on a real front porch on a Sunday morning and chatting with neighbors, Ditmas Park is the place for you. It’s a neighborhood in the western Flatbush area of Brooklyn, east of Kensington and is one of three Flatbush neighborhoods which has been officially designated a Historic District. The traditional boundaries of Ditmas Park are from Ocean Avenue to East 16th Street and from Dorchester Road to Newkirk Avenue. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, large Victorian homes were built, but in the past few years, the neighborhood has experienced a change with residents attracted to the large spaces for relatively low rents. Block after leafy block of century-old Victorians with large lots, manicured lawns, and tree-lined streets with pedigreed English names like Argyle, Rugby and Marlborough delight potential home owners. Colonial Revivals, Tudors, Federal-style, Japanese and even Swiss Chalet-style homes add to the architectural diversity.
